Administrative Staff

Sheila Erickson - Founder & Director

In my 30+ years of experience I’ve taught in the classroom and also Special Education from grades K-12. I've worked with all kinds of students who learn in different ways. I've had the privilege of seeing not only the challenges, but also the unique gifts that these students possess.

Roadways Literacy Studio started in the fall of 2014 with one student. By April 2019, our enrollment had grown to 25+ students! We now have over 60 students attending our studio and being supported with flexible, individualized programs.

Cristin Sawchuk (she/her) - Principal

In my 20 plus years as a teacher I have always maintained that connection is the key to learning. If we can connect to our students, we can teach them. As an educator I strive to allow each of my students the space to discover their passions and to embrace their unique set of talents and abilities. There is only one of you, so be you with all your heart!

For ten years I worked as a cyber teacher for Saskatoon Catholic Schools and in 2015, I joined the team at Roadways as a literacy teacher. In 2017 I took a sabbatical and moved my family to Prince Edward Island for a yearlong adventure which turned into 6. Working at Roadways sparked an interest in diverse learners so in 2019 I returned to university and in 2023 I earned my Post-Baccalaureate in Inclusive Education. I am honored to be returning to my prairie home and joining the incredible team at Roadways Literacy Academy as principal.

Camilla Trottier - Vice Principal

My name is Camilla Trottier, and I am a Tutor Teacher at Roadways Literacy Academy.  I was born and raised in Saskatoon, and I received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  After graduation I accepted a position in Fort St. John, BC, teaching elementary school.  Eight years later I had an opportunity to go back to school to study in a field in which I had long been interested.  I attended Lethbridge College where I received my Fashion Design and Merchandising diploma. Upon completion of my diploma, I returned to Lethbridge College as an Instructor with the FD&M program.  I spent many happy years in Lethbridge until life led me in a new direction. I accepted a management position with Indigo Books and remained with the company for 14 years. When the opportunity to join the team at Roadways Literacy Academy arose, I jumped at the chance to return to my first love, teaching. I joined the Roadways team in the spring of 2022. It is a privilege to work with students who have different learning needs, and a joy to work in an environment of compassionate inclusion.

Ann Chatfield - Administrative Assistant

Hello there, I am Ann, the school administrator.

I am usually the first one you meet when you come to Roadways Literacy Academy as my desk is at the front door. I am most often the one that greets the children first thing in the morning, answers the phone, puts on Band-Aids and calls you when your child is sick. It is an honor and a pleasure to work in an environment where the needs of children come first. I love my job.

I was born and raised in Northeast Saskatchewan and currently live in Saskatoon with my husband, Jim and our little dog Zeva. In my personal time, I enjoy watching our 4 children raise their families and watching our 10 grandkids grow up.

I am a small business owner who does intuitive coaching, using the Yuen Method of Chinese Energetic Healing, Reiki, Access Bars and Akashic record reading. I also channel, create and write books about sacred geometry and mandalas. In my spare time I enjoy gardening, camping, sledding, quadding, and any kind of craft.

Benjamin Johnson - Teacher

Hi! My name is Benjamin Johnson (he/him) and I am a literacy, science, and writing teacher here at Roadways Academy.

I have lived in Saskatoon my entire life and am happily married to a loving husband. I began teaching with the studio in 2016 while pursuing a Bachelor of Linguistics from the University of Saskatchewan and have been fortunate to be able to apply my linguistic knowledge in all areas of my work. It is my goal to assist our students in understanding phonics and grammar in a way that makes sense to them and provides them with an appreciation of language in general. I have also, as of January 2022, completed my Master’s in Writing degree from Vermont College of Fine Arts, meaning I’ll be able to share my love of writing even more fully with the students here.

I am invested in holistic, accessible education and value a flexible, reciprocal learning environment. After years of teaching music, movement, and writing, I am grateful for the opportunity to further hone my teaching skills at Roadways, and to continue honouring and adapting to various learning styles and abilities.

I grew up in Estevan, SK and moved to the beautiful city of Saskatoon in 2002. I worked as an Educational Assistant for many years before going back to school to get my Bachelors of Education in 2014.

Roadways is an amazing place to be; it is full of life and learning, smiles and stories, treasures and tropes. I am grateful to be a part of a place that puts student's needs and learning styles at the forefront. I enjoy being outside daily with the students getting fresh air and exercise while using a cross-curricular outdoor education curriculum.

In my spare time, I love to be with people, play soccer, and play with my two children, Holden (9) and Amelie (7).

Jordyn Schmidt

My name is Jordyn Schmidt, and I teach grades 5-7 at Roadways Literacy Academy. I received my Bachelor of Education in 2021 in Saskatoon and have worked in the field of specialized education for several years.

I feel so privileged to work in such a positive and supportive learning environment with so many exceptional students and teachers. I feel extremely lucky to be part of these students’ learning journeys and successes.

Tutors and Educational Assistants

Ms. Colette - EA

TBD

Sylvie Legacy - EA

Hello there! I'm Sylvie Legacy, and for the past 19 years, education has been both my passion and my profession. As an educational assistant and substitute teacher, I've had the joy of working with students across the spectrum, from pre-kindergarten to grade 12. Originally from New Brunswick, my family and I, including our two children and one on the way, made the exciting move to Saskatoon in 2013.

Beyond the classroom, I spend my free time delving into ongoing research on topics like behaviors, trauma, learning difficulties, self-care, and effective teaching methods. I'm a firm believer in the power of yoga and meditation, which play key roles in keeping balance and mindfulness in my life.

With a college degree specializing in intervention techniques and a Master life coaching certification, I've been fortunate to address diverse student needs. I genuinely see educators as catalysts, helping each child's true nature shine and guiding them towards their fullest potential as lifelong learners.

Cindy Reddick

Hi! My name is Cindy Reddick, I started at Roadways literacy in September 2023 as an EA/tutor.  I received a diploma from La Cité Collégiale in early childhood education in 2003.   I lived in a small town called Kapuskasing in northern Ontario, where I worked in a daycare for 10 years.

In 2013, I moved to Saskatoon with my husband and two wonderful boys.  I worked as a Pre K teacher for 9 years before beginning my wonderful journey at Roadways.

Lindsay Harpauer - Tutor

My name is Lindsay Harpauer and I am a tutor and EA at Roadways Literacy Academy. I have two dogs, Sadie and Jedi, and a cat named Rose. I have gone to school at Sask Polytech for Culinary Arts and Early Childhood Education. I moved from Regina where I ran my own daycare for the past 9 years.

Caring for and helping children grow has always been a passion of mine. I was diagnosed with dyslexia when I was younger and I wished that there was a school like this for me. So, when the opportunity was offered to me, I knew I had to take it. I am excited to be able to work with the children and learn the many different things that make them who they are, as well as being able to help give them the tools that they will need in the future. I am delighted to be able to work with and learn from these amazing teachers.

Cheryl MacDonald - Tutor

My name is Cheryl MacDonald. This is my fourth year teaching at Roadways Literacy, and I couldn’t be any happier!

My husband and I moved to Saskatoon in 2014.  We have three children, a daughter-in-law, and a sweet grandson! I love the Arts and relaxing at our Kenosee Lake cabin.

I have a B. Ed. degree specializing in Reading and Early Childhood. Most of my career has been teaching in a Grade One setting. I believe an educator becomes a believer for every child’s true nature to shine, reaching their potential as a lifelong learner.

It is an honour to be a part of our students’ learning journey and supporting their families along the way at Roadways Literacy Academy.

I truly look forward to each day! I am also a part-time tutoring teacher focusing on literacy.
