Roadways Market Day
SAVE THE DATE: March 13, 2020
Our students and teachers are busy preparing for our next Roadways Market Day! Friday, March 13, 2020, from 10:00a.m. – 12:30 p.m. we will be selling our products. The theme for our sale is “Pantry Particulars,” and includes many items you will need to stock your pantry. After shopping in our market, please stop at our lunch booth for a bowl of Irish stew and a biscuit in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day!
Entrepreneurship is part of our math program at Roadways Literacy Studio. This exciting opportunity provides a hands-on way to teach financial literacy to our young students. Using this vehicle, students learn many things about the process of starting-up a business, and gain an understanding of the financial aspects of a business:
building a budget
securing a loan
profit
expenses
savings
investment
At the same time, they are applying basic math skills like adding, subtracting, multipying and dividing in a very meaningful way!
Although entrepreneurship is taught during our math class, the students learn many other skills that will “pay-off” in their lifetime. They learn:
Resilience through setbacks and learning from their mistakes
Innovation and Creativity through creative problem solving
Industriousness which requires them to be self-driven and hard workers
Curiosity by being keen observers
Self-confidence as they promote and sell their products
Empathy by serving their customers in a mannerly and respectful way
Optimism when things don’t necessarily turn out the way they were envisioned
The value of Giving Back to society
